So yesterday we had our first meeting! I
will be working together with Linnéa, Lukas, Nicolas, Olivia and Thibault.
After we went through our previous experiences and games we usually like to
play we quickly went on to brainstorming ideas for the project. Since we had a
group member that had previous worked on android apps he suggested that we do an
android mobile game. We talked about doing a RPG game or something like the game
Flappy Bird that’s without story but
that didn’t really seem to inspire the group. Instead I brought up a concept of
having different lightning convey information to the user. I suggested that it
could be for example be applied to the popular game Snake where the snake would shift colours depending on its
surroundings. For example, it could change to a red colour that gets more
intense the closer to the wall it gets or change to blue the closer it gets to
a treat. I also suggested using the light concept in an adventure game, where
the light could be to guide the user from danger and to pick up points along
the way, or in a scary game where the only information about the “monster” is
conveyed through the light. Most group members seem to like the concept but one
said he wouldn’t like to play a game where he couldn’t see much so we decided
to continue brainstorming ideas.
We talked about creating a puzzle game like
Candy Crush or Flow but we thought that it might be difficult to do something
unique that hadn’t already been done. I then suggested that we could do a type
of asteroid game, that it could be a type of defend the earth game. I suggested
that it could be incoming asteroids that the user destroys by launching rockets
from the earth or a game where the user drags similar sized asteroids to destroy
them (or if non-similar asteroids are collided that the bigger asteroid will then
split into several smaller asteroids). The group seemed to like the first
suggestion better, except that they’d like a spaceship circling around earth that
shoots rockets instead of having rockets launching directly from earth as that
would possibly be too easy.
To next time everyone in the group are
supposed to continue to suggest project ideas as well as look at the market if
there’s any similar games to the earth-defender game.
